- Whats the lowdown about your internship?
- I'll be interning for the World Health Organization (WHO) at their Geneva, Switzerland headquarters from May through August of 2008. I will be working on the global estimation of exposure to lead (Pb) for the 2010 Global Burden of Disease Project (GBD).
- About Me:
- (I'll edit that picture soon!)I have my BS in Mathematics from Mesa State College; MS in Biostatistics from the University of Vermont and am working on my MS in Environmental Health Epidemiology. I'm intensly involved in campus clubs and organizations at CSU such as EHSA, Society of Global Health Researchers, Black Issues Forum as well as off campus with the American Red Cross and the Rotary Club.
I am currently funded by CSU's Professional Research and Scholarly Excellence (PRSE) Grant and as a Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences Teaching Assistant. I was also just awarded the 2009/2010 Rotary International Ambassadorial Fellowship which will pay for my travel, tuition and housing expenses for the 2009/10 school year at an international institution yet to be named!!

Nearly Halfway...
Not as many meetings as I thought there would be. Most of the work I have done has been in the confines of a single desk and computer. Logging endless hours finding the years that the countries of the world out phased leaded gasoline. This is because a region with leaded gasoline is the best measure of exposer response for lower IQ and increased blood pressure as reflected in blood lead levels.

Hello from Geneva, Switzerland!!
I had my first day interning for the World Health Organization on Monday, 2 June!! I has already been an amazing experience just walking into the building!
I was given a WHO ID badge (which is really fun to walk around town with) ...no cool points in town for sporting the badge since everyone here seems to work for some big global organization - but it does kind of make it seem like you're less of a tourist.

I would like to introduce myself, although I already have briefly with your "Win a prize form Switzerland" entry. I have been reading about your experiences in Switzerland and here and they sound awesome. Unfortunately, I am in no position to travel! How did you originally get involved with WHO? Need any lab assistants for your project in the fall? Hope all is well.
