I am beginning to make some progress on one of the final reports that I will be working on. So far, I have had to create a soil description, document photographic location, maps that will be included in the easement that will need a specific color key, and various other projects. The most tedious thing that I do not like to do is proofreading some the paragraphs in the report. This is time consuming and everything has to be perfect. If there are errors in the report, it takes away from the professionalism that it possesses.
As I am currently editing a report I am noticing small differences that separate the reports from one another such as different water ways that run through them, exception such as power lines that border the properties, and many other items that make a huge difference in how the report is written. If I was to miss something, I would then be writing about different attributes that are not present on the land. That could lead to these reports not being approved by the Colorado Cattleman's Land Trust. So, it is important that I pay attention and not rush myself.
Next week I am going to be helping Dr. Gilkey present some information about the Environmental Health Major Dept. at CSU, and I am going to talk about how this major has introduced me to this internship from a knowledge stand point. I am utilizing a lot information and skills attained through coursework at CSU.
Since I am making great progress with my internship, it feels good knowing that I will be doing this internship longer than the 300 hour mark.
Back to what I am currently working on, my file started with one page on the first day and has exploded to about 1,500 pages in just an 8 week period. That gives an idea of how much documentation and reports that I am going through on a daily basis. There is a lot information that is similar between all of the reports, but there is also a lot of information that is not the same between them at the same time.
My next project that I am going to work on is writing a report from scratch and not using any template whatsoever. If I can do that at a satisfactory level, that will show that I am really gaining a great understanding from this internship.
